This Unit is designed to enable candidates to gain an understanding of different approaches to managing an organisation in today’s dynamic and complex business environment. It will introduce candidates — whether intending to or working in an administrative, commercial or
management role — to current management theories to enable them to use these to evaluate organisational effectiveness.
On completion of the Unit the candidate should be able to:
1 Explain the characteristics and purpose of the organisation and its environment.
2 Analyse factors that influence workplace performance.
3 Analyse factors that influence managerial performance.
4 Identify and compare alternative approaches to organising people within the workplace.
